Africa I Remember - DVD release in negotiation

Profile of Young British-born composer, Tunde Jegede.

This TV programme follows Tunde's musical journey in The Gambia, Cambridge England and London culminating in the Premiere performance of his 1995 work for the London Sinfonietta - 'Cycle of Reckoning' This is the World's first work for African Harp-Lute and Orchestra. The TV performance was conducted by Markus Stenz. 

Broadcast on BBC 2 in prime time 'Africa I Remember' became The Times 'Critics Choice' and won an 'Award for Creative Excellence' in The United States Film and Video Festival. Subsequently the film was shown at the prestigious Margaret Mead Festival in New York and has been shown several times on BBC Knowledge. Produced and directed by Paul Balmer. Negotiations for a DVD 'Directors' cut are in motion. This would include an hour of bonus features and a director's commentary.

Two sister programmes entitled 'Music For The Lion King' have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3. These were written and presented by Paul Balmer. They became the INDEPENDENT's 'Pick of the Day'.

Tunde Jegede has recently (2002) been working in Mali, West Africa with Toumani Diabate and several new albums are in production. A film soundtrack recorded with full orchestra at London's Air Studios is due for release in 2002. Written by Tunde and produced by Paul Balmer the soundtrack features Oumou Sangare and Kassemady Diabate.
