1. This DVD is just perfect, from the superb performances to the warmth and insight of the man himself. The settings - 'The Maltings' for the pieces recorded for the DVD and his house in Hardy country for the reminiscences are quite beautifula great production. Totally recommended.

2. What a fantastic story! I found it moving and inspiring. I'd assumed that Julian Bream came from a wealthy family with a background in classical music. And of course was completely wrong. I've told lots of anecdotes from the film to friends, lent it to some and bought it as a birthday present recently. If you like a good story and you enjoy guitar music, you're in for a treat.

Julian Bream is considered by many as the greatest classical guitarist of the 20th Century and, as if this were not enough, he also quietly reinvented the renaissance lute and bought it to a new and stimulated audience.

Written for Bream, Benjamin Britten’s ‘Nocturnal’ Op. 70, is widely regarded as an important centrepiece of the modern guitar repertoire and this masterpiece forms an appropriate frame for Julian’s story. Director Paul Balmer returned Bream to Aldeburgh, revisiting the original manuscript  at Britten’s home. This culminated in the guitarist coming out of retirement to perform complete movements of the Britten and the de Falla ‘Homenaje’ in the wonderful acoustic of the Snape Maltings.
